Sometimes it seems like my struggle as an artist is simply avoiding the temptation to constantly create art out of nostalgia instead of out of new constructs. Not that nostalgic art isn’t a perfectly legitimate art form; simply that nostalgia is emotionally crippling for me. (Not to mention the fact that I wonder if anyone really shares my nostalgias.)
We Might Not Come Back Alive is a film project about local artists who’ve dedicated their life to expressing themselves in open, honest, and public ways. It’s about the reasons artists do what they do and how they struggle for both acceptance and relevancy. It will be both non-fiction and fictional narrative filmmaking combined in a documentary style format. Geared towards promoting local artists and art forms native to the Virginia Beach area including live music, the visual arts, and theater arts. We look forward to hearing from each and every one of you. And if you’re local, perhaps you can join the project at some point!
